History of the game

Let us look at a little history of State of Origin games. The game got its name from the First Senior rugby league where the players represented the Australian state. Only interstate matches played among the football clubs before 1980. However, in the year 1980 and 1981, there was a preliminary match played between the two regional teams which were named the State of Origin. This experiment worked well and the game kicked off from 1982 with a best of three match series for the shield. The start of the event was just even, or both the teams but later between 2006 to 2013 Queensland took over the league and won all the series.
